Karl Lenton was born in Leicester, England where he began playing the piano and cello from an early age. Studying music at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Malcolm Wilson and Philip Martin, he devoted himself to the piano and in 1999 graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours. He was then awarded the Dennis Matthews Piano Scholarship and the Young Cygnets Trust Scholarship to continue studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Studies.
Karl has performed as soloist and with ensembles throughout the UK and abroad on concert tours of USA, Austria, Russia, Italy, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway and Sweden, and he has played concerti under conductors such as Edwin Roxburgh, Peter Donohoe and Lyndon Hilling. Prizes and competition successes include first prize in the Birmingham and Midlands Institute Piano Prize, the Derek Young Memorial Award, the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Award, the Dudley Millennium Piano Competition Regional Award, the Chandos Young Musician Accompanists Prize and the Rivendell Trust Accompanists Prize.
Karl was resident pianist at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham from 1996 – 2000 and performs as Classical pianist for cruise lines, including Fred Olsen and Saga. He enjoys a busy career combining teaching, performing and composition.
In 2006 he was awarded a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in piano performance.
